"They say that the eyes are the windows to the soul, so what
happens when the person's eyes are unavailable to look into? You read
their words." - La Kata E.K.
Let me introduce myself. My name is La Kata E.K. and I am a poet. I am a multi-published author. I am an avid reader. I am a constant writer. I am a freelance proofreader and editor. I am a book reviewer. Most importantly, I am someone that believes that beauty can be found within the ugliest of
I have been reading for as far back as I can remember
and that was about the age of 5. The first book that I remember owning
(and still do) is Dr. Seuss' "The Cat in the Hat". Reading is a form of
adventure for me. No matter what is going on in my life, I know that
when I submerge myself into the pages of a book, an interesting journey
I began writing poetry when I was 13 years old and
I've been writing poetry ever since. Dr. Seuss’ rhyme scheme and Maya
Angelou’s personal experiences are what inspired me to write the way
that I do. However, as time has passed, I have changed my writing style
up a bit but there’s still that “Dr. Seuss” within me.
Over time, as I have grown as a writer,
I find myself writing within various genres; no one genre is off limits
to me. I have written in the poetry genre, the children's genre, the
romance genre, and even the reference genre. Understand, poetry is my
heart and will always be my "main" genre; it will always be that one
genre that I will write the most within.
was, and still is, a form of therapy for me. It gives me clarity when I
can't seem to find clarity anywhere else. I feel that writing is a
healthy form of expression and that all should indulge in it
occasionally. It allows me to express myself in a way that cannot be
controlled or restricted by anyone. I feel that everyone should be able
to express themselves in one form or another; as long as it's legal
anyway. If more people were able to get their feelings out somehow, then
maybe the world would be a little bit of a better place to live. I am never not writing and right now, I am working on multiple projects throughout various genres.
In 2017, I began doing author interviews. After submerging myself completely within the indie writing community, I began learning about genres I had never heard of before. I was also introduced to so many authors, each with their own story to tell. Finding myself wanting to learn more about other authors, I decided that interviewing them would be the way to do so. If you're interested in learning about other authors as well, you can find their interviews at Authors in the Spotlight.
In 2018, I decided to become a book reviewer. I already enjoyed reading and after becoming active in the author community, I realized how important reviews were. Not just any kind of reviews either, the honest ones. Authors do not want fake, or ever surface, reviews because those do not help us grow in our craft, we want ones that tell us exactly how the book affected the reader. We want reviews that let us know what we did right or even what we did wrong, this way we know whether or not it will work for our next book. We want to hear the opinions of our readers more than I think our readers even realize, but some readers are not interested in leaving a review of any kind and so began my journey.
